Why we exist
Our vision is to make economic opportunity possible for everyone by eliminating the barriers that keep people from accessing the resources to which they’re entitled.
Public assistance programs like federal financial aid, SNAP, and unemployment insurance can enable paths to financial security and unlock economic opportunities like postsecondary education and gainful employment.
But obtaining these benefits is unjustifiably hard, forcing people to prove their need, or turning them away entirely. An estimated $60 billion of public assistance goes unclaimed every year.
It’s especially hard for parents, women, black, Indigenous and people of color experiencing financial distress; in these communities, every challenge is exacerbated by systemic barriers.
This makes low public benefits utilization, and the unnecessary barriers that exclude people from critical resources, an important social justice issue to solve. We refuse to accept this.
